Kaneko: A Japanese Legacy of Luxury and Quality

Introduction

In Japan, the Kaneko company is renowned for its luxury goods and high-quality standards. The company has a long history of continuous improvement and innovation, which has helped it to become one of the leaders in its industry.

One of the key methods that Kaneko uses to achieve its high standards is the Kaizen Blitz method. This involves making small changes to processes and procedures continuously, to gradually improve quality and efficiency. This method has been successfully used by Kaneko to improve its manufacturing processes, and it is now being implemented by other companies in the United States and around the world.

Kaizen is also a philosophy that is applied in everyday life, to gradually improve one’s health, lifestyle and relationships. By making small changes daily, we can gradually make huge steps forward in our lives.

The Kaneko company is an excellent example of the power of continuous improvement and the Kaizen philosophy. By applying these principles in its business, Kaneko has achieved great success and a reputation for quality and luxury

A Brief History of Kaneko

The Kaneko company was founded in 1904 by Matajiro Kaneko, who was born in 1873 in the town of Hikone in Shiga Prefecture. He was the eldest son of a wealthy family, and he was educated at the prestigious Doshisha University in Kyoto. After graduation, he worked for a time in his father’s business, but he was not content with this life and he yearned to see the world. In 1898, Kaneko set out on a journey around the world, and he visited many countries including the United States, England, France and Germany. He was particularly impressed by the manufacturing processes he saw in the United States, and he decided that he wanted to learn more about these methods. In 1901, Kaneko returned to Japan and started a small business manufacturing ceramic pots and vases. He used the knowledge he had gained from his travels to improve the quality of his products, and his business quickly grew. In 1904, Kaneko established the Kaneko Manufacturing Company, and the following year he registered the “Kaneko” trademark. The company continued to grow and prosper, and by the 1920s it was one of the leading pottery manufacturers in Japan.

The Process of Creating Kaneko Pottery

Kaneko pottery is made from a clay called “Goshenit”, which is found in the mountains of Shiga Prefecture. This clay is of high quality and it is well-suited for the manufacture of pottery. The clay is first mixed with water to make a soft dough. It is then placed on a pottery wheel and shaped into the desired form. After the pottery has been shaped, it is left to dry for some time. Once the pottery is dry, it is fired in a kiln at a high temperature. This firing process gives the pottery strength and durability. After the pottery has been fired, it is glazed with a special type of glaze called “Shinsha”. This glaze is made from a mixture of feldspar and clay, and it gives the pottery its distinctive shine. The pottery is then fired again in the kiln, at a lower temperature than the first firing. This second firing seals the glaze to the pottery and gives it its final finish.
